Since "forever" we NGOs have been pleading, asking, demanding a humane and human rights solution for Moria. Now what we have been talking about for months/years has happened. A catastrophe, the entire camp for people on the run is burning.
12,000 people on the run homeless, traumatised, HELPLESS. Women, children, men.
Long political negotiations are now inappropriate. Now is the time to act, as we do when disasters strike. Immediate aid from all EU states. Disaster relief immediately.
Greece does not have a national challenge in this case, but it concerns the EU. A community of states must be prepared to provide immediate and uncomplicated help in the event of a disaster. That is what needs to happen now.
