Managed violation of human rights or responsible visionary asylum and migration policy

Now, as I head towards Lesvos in the glorious morning sun and the view of the blue sea after my trip to other Greek islands, my heart almost bursts.

The last week passes me by like a film. This indescribable misery, these human dramas, the conversations with people seeking protection on Samos and Chios, the realisation that all of our children will have to continue our paths in order to overcome the encrustation of this suffering, this pain, this loss on the one hand and this cruelty on the other, almost aggression, these fears, this indifference, which is probably one of the greatest dilemmas, and this destructive, right-wing policy that disregards justice and human dignity, on the other hand, into new, visionary and unifying paths.

I cried bitterly tonight, in my cabin, under the low hum of the ferry.
I read a message from a dear friend that sums it all up in one sentence:

"When I read/hear what you report on FB, I get so angry! The continent has really given up on itself. I'm currently nursing my boy from Moria. Underweight, grey hair, completely broken teeth - at 17".

A boy who was lucky. Thanks to the love of his brother's sponsor family living in Austria and the support of Austrian authorities, he was finally able to reach Austria.
Thanks to all who supported.

A large number of people continue to stay in these inhuman camps, seemingly forgotten and ignored by a continent that prides itself on its humanitarian values, civilisation and progress.

The images, this terrible misery that my colleague and friend Fayad and I have seen are seared into my mind as well as my heart.
They cause feelings that are not easy to sort out and raise questions that, on balance, can only be answered with one answer: "These crimes must end".

My despair and anger are overflowing.

No matter how one thinks or handles asylum and migration policy. Conditions such as those we have seen, which exist in reality and which, even without emotionalising, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz simply trample on the dignity of all of us and are unacceptable, must be ended immediately, immediately.
Even if one is not willing, as a Member State of the European Union, to share a mini-share of 100 families, one has the obligation, as Chancellor of Austria, to participate in putting an immediate end to this catastrophe, this spurning of justice and human dignity.
I also expect this from Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen.

I don't even address theGreens any more, because their incompetence and cowardice, which is justified with "if we were not in government, foreign aid would not have been increased", defies description in view of the suffering on the Greek islands and the European external borders. Would you at least just shut up, any justification is completely inappropriate and impious.

My heart is sore, in Austria people celebrate Pentecost, but the "spirit" they mean, they have long since banished from their hearts.

I think of all the desperate people, of their inner and outer wounds, which sooner or later will be ours as well, and I ask myself over and over again how we can get out of this miserable cycle of distributing food, baby and women's parcels, buying medicine, organising clothes, and finally get into the project of "human dignity" and end this madness.

I was and am comforted by the many friends who accompany and support us all on our way, by the love and commitment of so many people, and by the fact that my son landed on the island yesterday and I will soon be able to hold him in my arms and know that he will be here for a few days.

If you would like to support our work, thank you very much!

  1. Hello Doro,

I was on holiday with my wife at the Stiftshotel in Mondsee and discovered the appeal for donations in front of the basilica. I transferred a donation and hope to be able to help you a little.

    Kind regards and good luck

    Alfred
