#StopDeportationToAfghanistan - Herbert Langthaler

Today with a contribution from a dear and much appreciated colleague, Herbert Langthaler/co-founder of Asylkoordination Österreich. "The ongoing insecurity, the fear of deportation to the most unsafe country in the world, is wearing people down......"

Herbert Langthaler has not allowed himself to be worn down despite the great challenges; he has been working for people on the run for almost 30 years. He has not only worked for people on the run, but has also always been a reliable contact and networker for us NGOs and supporters, thank you very much dear Herbert.

We all know that Afghanistan is the most dangerous country in the world, but the reason why we have to repeat it again and again is that the Austrian Federal Government does not take this into consideration, ignores human rights and continues to deport people to Afghanistan. Regardless of the terrible situation that awaits the people in the high-risk area of Afghanistan. Many people from civil society, representatives of the Afghan community, faith communities and religious representatives are asking for a stop to deportations to a war zone. To date without success.

Together we will continue to fight. Until the federal government realises that we can neither represent these deportations in human rights terms nor can we reconcile them with our democratic and humanitarian values.

We also accompany people deported from Austria to Afghanistan. Students, converts, workers, we know their suffering only too well. Again and again they have to change places, they hardly find any support in the country itself and would be completely destitute if they were not supported by helpers from Austria. We report again and again about their fears and psychological condition. It is unbelievable what is being done to people. Many of the deportees have already attempted suicide.

We remain committed to demanding and working consistently against deportations to Afghanistan. And we thank all those who support us in this. How? Letters to those responsible, protests, talks in your communities and financial support for what we are doing. Many thanks, Doro
