Solidarity March for Moria

The "Weekend for Moria" initiated in Innsbruck moved the whole of Austria in a relatively short time and encouraged other cities in Austria to organise these camps as well. The solidarity of civil society with those seeking protection on the Greek islands and at the European external borders such as in Bosnia was made clearly visible for months. With these actions, we are all demanding humane accommodation for those seeking protection, fast and fair procedures and a distribution of people among the European member states. We cannot and will not accept the current situation where people are detained for months and years, where children do not receive any education, where people have to live in freezing cold tents without heating in winter and in completely overheated tents in summer, where they do not receive sufficient medical or psychological care and where they have to fight for existential needs every day.

The weekend for Moria/Graz was initiated by Lisa Rücker and the chairwoman of our association, "Heidrun Primas". She was also the one who initiated the walk from Graz to Vienna and made it a reality. The route leads via

Graz-Gleisdorf-Pischelsdorf-Hartberg-Friedberg-Traiskirchen-Mödling-Vienna/Ballhausplatz.

The group will then join the big UMBRELLA March in Vienna on 18 June and together with thousands of people send a strong signal for a fair and humanitarian refugee policy.

Heidrun Primas sends us a little report every day, her personal thoughts, which you can read here on our homepage.

Day 1, Graz - Gleisdorf, Thoughts, Heidrun Primas

We are going to Vienna! Today we were on the road for 7 hours from Graz to Gleisdorf in order to hold a rally with *feldstellen* together with the people from the Solidarregion Weiz. Solidarity practised together! Along the way we laughed a lot, because life is beautiful, but we also discussed a lot and discussed how we can move more. In any case, networking is enormously strengthening.

Night-time trepidation. My tent is inadequately pitched. The wind sounds threatening, what if it lifts the tent from its moorings? Is heavy rain coming? If everything gets wet, I can't go on... The lightness of the day lost. Heartfelt sympathy for all those along the way who cannot find sufficient shelter.
