Lesbos 1st day

As always when we land on Lesvos, the first day consists of checking out the situation. For this we meet with Nikos and Katherina from HomeForAll, who have been working for refugees here for years. In a way that we are happy to support thanks to your help.

Arriving at HomeForAll's "Taverna", where up to 1200 meals are cooked daily for distribution to shelter seekers, we sat down together and learned about the "ACTUAL state".

Nothing has become better. On the contrary! There are still no showers, while we heat our accommodation in the evening. So all the people, including the children, are still sleeping in the cold. Tom, Roland and Pascal have been distributing 100s of Babycare parcels for the last few weeks, delivering food from and with Nikos and bringing it to the tents.

The situation is getting worse, cameras are strictly forbidden, clearly the EU does not want all these atrocities to be visible. They are supposed to serve efficiently to make people return "voluntarily".

The camp was closed in the afternoon for inexplicable reasons, which was sad. Our accreditation runs from Monday, people couldn't get out, tomorrow is Sunday, so unfortunately we couldn't meet Sima, Mohammad, our friends today.

From Monday we will work together with Nikos and Katarina again. First we pack all the food, then we prepare the baby parcels, sort jackets, shoes, children's things, go shopping for the necessary things and then, around 2 pm, we drive to the camp and distribute them. There was great preparation here. There is a list where all the tents are numbered and which residents are listed. This is extremely useful.

After the meeting, where we also heard many sad things, we went to the butcher and gave him 2000€ for the next purchases for #HomeforAll.

Then to the petrol station and buy vouchers for the vans to fill up, because nothing works without a car.

We will restock the Warehouse with Pampers, formula, bottles, etc to prepare the packages with the families.

The next week, the shoes will arrive from Austria, as well as clothes sent by a friend. We will buy warm blankets, toys and writing materials for the children.

And watch it get colder, the EU states and Austria not making a move to do what would be the order of the day:

Evacuation of the camp Now. Winter is just around the corner. Kurz and Co are hunkering down and watching anxiously to see how far they can go! When you are on the ground and observe this cruel game, every word that is supposed to describe the situation of the people sticks in your throat.

All those who would like to support our work, please send to

  1. Dear Doro Blancke!

Thank you for your reports and tireless efforts. I will tell about you in my All Saints sermon tomorrow and post your report in the Guardian Angels Church. More people need to know what is going on and what you need for your help.

    All the best

  2. Thank you Doro, for the insights. I always share it on Facebook to get and keep more attention. Maybe more people will do this, because hopefully more helps more in this case. I'm with you and I'm rooting for you! Sirit

  4. What you are doing is great! It's totally sad that you're doing this because Austria and the Stast community are cold and stubborn. I am ashamed of the coldness of my country. I want to help you financially!

  5. Dear Doro,
A report about the great fundraising campaign and the clothing collection was published in the Lustenau municipal newspaper, whereupon the mother of a good friend, an elderly lady (90), spontaneously sent me € 100 for transfer. The money has been transferred via pay pal. Thank you for your commitment, which opens and touches the hearts of so many. LG Gerhard
